US considering procurement agreement with Slovenia

06 March 2014

The United States Department of Defense (DoD) is considering liberalising procurement regulations with Slovenia as part of a Reciprocal Defence Procurement (RDP) Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

The DoD is currently in the process of soliciting feedback on industry's experience of dealing with procurement with the Slovenian Ministry of Defence and Slovenian Armed Forces following a notification placed in the US government's Federal Register in February, with comments to be received by 14 March.

According to a DoD spokesperson, an RDP was first mooted in 2011 but negotiations did not regain momentum again until late 2013.

RDP agreements are, according to the DoD, designed to promote rationalisation, standardisation, and equipment interoperability between partner countries through enhancing market access.
