A first regular combat unit of the Brazilian Army (Exército Brasileiro) is to soon receive the service's new 6x6 amphibious armoured fighting vehicle (AFV), produced locally by Iveco Latin America.

By mid-March, the 33th Motorized Infantry Battalion, part of the 15th Mechanized Infantry Brigade located in Cascavel, State of Paraná, is scheduled to receive 13 of the vehicles, known as the VBTP-MR (Viatura Blindada Transporte de Pessoal, Média de Rodas) Guarani, the programme's manager at the army's Project Management Office told IHS Jane's .

The vehicles are part of the experimental doctrine tranche of 86 vehicles acquired in August 2012 by the army's Department of Science and Technology (DCT).
