Former TNI-AD chief of staff calls for ban on Singapore warships entering Indonesian waters

20 February 2014

Former Indonesian Army (TNI-AD) chief of staff and Democratic Party presidential hopeful Pramono Edhie Wibowo has called for Indonesia to ban Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) vessels from entering Indonesia's territorial waters.

"As far as I know, Indonesian warships do not enter Singaporean territorial waters often," said Wibowo. "It is Singapore warships that come into our territorial waters very often. They will have much to lose if we really enforce this."

Wibowo was speaking to the Indonesian media in response to a statement made by Singapore's Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen on 18 February. Ng told parliament that Singapore would not allow Indonesia's new 95 m F2000 series offshore patrol vessel (OPV) KRI Usman Harun to dock at ports and naval bases in the city state.
