Russian Deputy Minister of Defence Yury Borisov announced on 20 November that the state defence order for 2014 will be 25% greater than 2013. This will increase military procurement from USD42 billion to approximately USD53 billion next year.
He addressed a news media roundtable together with representatives of major Russian defence industrial enterprises.
Borisov said over 50% of new armaments and equipment under contract have reached the armed forces in 2013, but he expects 95% before the end of the year.
However, Borisov noted that some factories will not meet delivery deadlines due to insufficient production capacity and labour shortages.
