Philippines looks to procure additional C-130s in wake of typhoon

The Philippine Air Force (PAF) is planning the purchase of several new or refurbished C-130 Hercules transport aircraft over the next few years to improve the capability to respond to natural disasters, PAF spokesman Col Miguel Okol told IHS Jane's on 26 November.

The PAF currently operates three C-130s, all of which have been extensively deployed as part of the armed forces' response to the devastating typhoon that struck the Philippines' central islands on 8 November.

Col Okol said, however, that the PAF's existing C-130 inventory was "nowhere near enough" to cope with the demands placed on the PAF in the wake of the typhoon.
