Iraq requests $2bn worth of helos, vehicles and maintenance

28 July 2013

The US Defense Security and Cooperation Agency (DSCA) released three notifications on 25 July to inform Congress that Iraq has requested search-and-rescue helicopters; chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear (CBRN) defence reconnaissance vehicles; and maintenance support for the Iraqi military. Together, the three requests are estimated to be worth USD1.95 billion.

The DSCA estimated the proposed sale of the Bell 412EP helicopters at USD300 million, which would cover FLIR Systems Star SAFIRE III electro-optical sensor turrets, night-vision imagery systems and all-weather radars. "This will provide the Iraqi Air Force with a search-and-rescue capability critical to developing a mature air force," it said.
