Philippines announces ambitious procurement timetable

The Philippine government announced on 7 July that 24 projects scheduled under the Armed Forces Modernization Program will be completed by 2016.

Media briefing notes released to IHS Jane's and documents submitted to the Philippine legislature for funding include bidding announcements for eight attack helicopters; a refurbishment contract for UH-1H utility helicopters; night vision systems; three radar station support facilities; and a development plan for several military bases.

According to the documents, the Philippine Army is seeking funding for an integrated "wide area defence" surface-to-air missile and man-portable air defence system (MANPADS); a multiple rocket launcher, night fighting systems and radios.
