Lebanese construction worker kidnapped in southern Nigeria

09 July 2013

EVENT

A Lebanese construction worker in the southern Nigerian city of Benin in Edo State has been kidnapped by unidentified gunmen, the Nigerian authorities revealed on 9 July.

The construction yard that was attacked is owned by the Lebanese firm SETRACO. Local media outlets have reported that a Nigerian soldier who was guarding the site was killed in the attack and a further guard was reportedly wounded. State police spokesman Moses Eguavoen confirmed the incident but said that he could not comment on reports of the guard's death.

Previously on 17 February, another SETRACO site was attacked in Bauchi state, and seven foreign workers were abducted.
