NATO signs contract for a theatre ballistic missile defence capability

NATO signed a EUR136 million contract with ThalesRaytheonSystems on 20 June to produce and deploy a theatre ballistic missile defence capability to be integrated with the NATO Air Command and Control System (ACCS). The ACCS TMD1 (Theatre Missile Defense 1) contract will include the integration of additional radars and satellites, increased data communication capacity, and an improved tracking and correlation features.

An Interim Capability also built by ThalesRaytheonSystems under an earlier contract was fielded at Ramstein in 2012.

According to Jack Harrington, CEO of ThalesRaytheonSystems, the new contract will involve a total of 15 industry partners located in eight counties.
