USAF F-16 lost in training accident

01 July 2013

A US Air Force (USAF) Lockheed Martin F-16D Fighting Falcon training aircraft crashed shortly after performing a 'touch-and-go' at Luke Air Force Base in Arizona on 26 June.

The two-seat aircraft from the 309th Fighter Squadron, 56th Fighter Wing, reportedly suffered an engine malfunction before coming down into a field adjacent to the base. Both crew members ejected safely.

While the USAF has launched an investigation, national media has speculated that a bird-strike may be to blame.
