Indonesia and US commit to joint CBRNE solutions development

Indonesia and the United States have agreed to collaborate in developing counter-chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and explosive (CBRNE) capability, further expanding defence ties between the two countries.

The Indonesian Ministry of Defence (MoD) and the US Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) - an agency under the Department of Defense focused on countering weapons of mass destruction - agreed to co-operate on "increasing [Indonesia's] capacity to deal with the threat of CBRNE" during bilateral meetings in Jakarta on 26 June, said the MoD in a statement.

Collaboration is expected to focus on a range of activities including technologies and training. It is also designed to enhance the capabilities of the Indonesian MoD's CBRNE section, which was established in February 2013.
