Paris Air Show 2013: HammerHead to stalk seas

On 18 June at the Paris Air Show, Piaggio Aero Industries and Selex ES unveiled the P.1HH HammerHead unmanned aerial system (UAS).

In launching the aircraft, Piaggio and Selex stated that HammerHead's capabilities include "being able to host several payload combinations and to perform multiple missions … [such as] communications and electronic intelligence roles, electronic warfare as well as other roles … [and] aerial, land, coastal, maritime, and offshore security".

HammerHead's design is based on Piaggio Aero's P.180 Avanti II aircraft, which was designed primarily for the commercial market but a small number of which (9 out of the 225 in service) are fitted for maritime surveillance.
