NATO approves ConOps for post-ISAF Afghanistan mission

06 June 2013

Allied defence ministers approved a concept of operations (ConOps) for NATO's post-2014 training mission in Afghanistan on 5 June, although the mission's size and security arrangements for its force protection are yet to be finalised.

"We have just endorsed the detailed concept of our non-combat mission in Afghanistan," NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen told reporters at the conclusion of the ministers' 4-5 June meeting in Brussels.

He noted that Afghanistan's security forces will be fully responsible "for their fate and the country's future" after 2014, but added that "they will not stand alone: the international community has committed to stand by them".
