IKONOS Satellite image of Lingshui Airfield Control Tower

Credit: Space Imaging

The airfield at Lingshui has only one runway and little aerodrome infrastructure in the immediate vicinity of the airstrip apart from the control tower and perhaps some maintenance facilities to the west. The main landing point adjacent to the control tower looks well-used, however, where the tyres of landing aircraft have left their mark (curiously, the Chinese pilots seem to land in only one direction -- perhaps due to the prevailing winds in the region). There are two sets of dispersal areas at the northwestern and southwestern edges of the runway, and more than a dozen Chinese aircraft were located at the base at the time this image was collected.
