AA 2006: Gripen International sees 2006 as key year for JAS 39

Gripen International is expecting significant progress in several competitions involving its JAS 39 multirole fighter aircraft this year and also in the near term, according to the company's director of sales Bob Kemp.
Speaking at the Asian Aerospace 2006 exhibition in Singapore, Kemp earmarked 2006 as a year of milestones for fighter aircraft requirements in some countries (such as Bulgaria, Greece, Romania and Switzerland); request for information (RfI) landmarks in others (Norway and Denmark); and less hopeful or more distant requirements (Baltic countries, Brazil and Thailand).
Kemp believes the company can overcome the commitment of Denmark and Norway to Lockheed Martin's Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) F-35 multirole fighter, particularly on financial grounds.
"Denmark and Norway are serious, the RfI [we have responded to] is not lightweight and they will be able to see the cost benefit," Kemp said.
